In June 2006 the
Government of the Russian Federation approved a Federal Target
Program “Development of Sochi as an alpine resort (2206-2014)”
which served as basis for the Bid of Sochi for hosting 2014 Winter
Olympic and Paralympic Games. Reconstruction of Sochi seaport was
included in this program and nowadays International Olympic Committee
experts pay attention not only to the construction of sport venues,
but also to such an important project as reconstruction of Sochi
seaport, which includes building necessary shore infrastructure. The
project is aimed at creating an international cruise and passenger
shipping centre on the Black sea. During the Olympic Games cruise
liners are to serve as floating hotels for the visitors of the city.
Building new cruise berths
will allow accepting up to 2 high-tonnage cruise vessels at a time. A
new state-of-the-art cruise/passenger terminal will be built, and the
existing basin will be retrofitted to a yacht marina. Sochi will
become one of the most developed seaports on the Black sea.
This project serves
a bright example of PPP, where “Commercial seaport of Sochi” JSC
is a private investor who builds shopping malls and hotels, office
centres and parkings. Building a yacht marina is also a
responsibility of Sochi port. Leading Russian and foreign companies
are involved into the project. Among them: “Morstroytekhnologii”
(Saint-Petersburg, Russia), “Stroyproekt-XXI” (Krasnodar,
Russia), “InzhGeo” (Krasnodar, Russia),
“Mourjan IGY Marinas” (UAE), “Elkus Manfredi Architects”
(USA) and others.
According to the
masterplan, actual construction of the public constituent is
scheduled for May-June 2010, while the private investor will launch
the process in March 2011. The commencement of works is scheduled for
March 2013. |
